Anthropic’s Super Bowl Ad Campaign Spurs 11% User Growth Amid AI Rivalry
Anthropic’s viral Super Bowl ad, which took indirect aim at OpenAI, drove an 11% surge in its user base and a 6.5% increase in website visits, according to BNP Paribas. The campaign propelled Claude’s parent company into the top 10 free apps on the Apple Store, outperforming rivals Meta, Gemini, and OpenAI.
While OpenAI saw a 2.7% bump in daily active users post-game and Google’s Gemini added 1.4%, Anthropic’s cheeky ad was deemed the winner of the “AI Super Bowl.” The ad blitz reached 125 million U.S. viewers, intensifying the public feud between the two firms as they eye potential IPOs later this year.
Paul Smith, Anthropic’s chief commercial officer, emphasized a focus on revenue growth over aggressive spending—a subtle jab at competitors. Despite the gains, Claude’s user base still trails ChatGPT and Gemini in scale.
